Jennifer Lanphear

"I enjoy sports, shopping, and movies."

Ms. Lanphear is also the High School Volleyball coach.

Do your co-workers say any thing about you?

"I think they would say I spend too much time at work and that I need to procrastinate less. I think they wish I would talk less sometimes as well."

Ms. Lanphear is one of the teachers here at Fennville High School and she has been teaching here for about four years now. She teaches business and some math classes, although she did teach math full-time for 3 years prior to this year. Her job is very important of course because without good teachers there wouldn't be a school. Ms. Lanphear has not always been a teacher, while in high school and in college she worked in a grocery store for ten years but quit once she finished her teaching degree. She has student taught at Kalamazoo central and at Van Buren Tech center prior to Fennville as well as being a substitute teacher while she was in college. When asked if she thought she was successful at her job she replied, "I hope I am successful at my job. It is kind of a hard thing to measure. I just hope that in ten years one of my old students will come back and tell me that something they learned from me helped them." Since Ms. Lanphear has took over new classes she has done a lot of research and attended seminars to get new ideas for teaching methods and projects. Ms. Lanphear's philosophy towards work is, "I put a lot into my job. I feel like if I don't, I'm not giving anything back to my students. Ms. Lanphears greatest strengths are her personality and her willingness to do anything for her students". The motivation for Ms. Lanphear is to see a student finally understanding a concept.
At the beginning of her career at Fennville high school Ms. Lanphear wasn't sure how long she would be working here because of the long drive from her home in Kalamazoo and not being used to working at such a small school. Later she found out she really enjoys the school district and the community as a whole. She went to a very big high school and she thinks it's nice to be working for a small one where you know all the students and many community members. When asked if she had plans of leaving Fennville to seek other jobs she replied, I have no plans to leave Fennville in the near future. I am working on my Masters degree so that could possibly lead to new job opportunities.
