Fennville Family

Another Fennville family member, Tom Chatman, keeps giving to the school and the community.

Long years as a 4th grade teacher in Anna Michen School allowed him to see the children grow into adulthood.

Not one to rest on his laurels, besides retirement and being a volunteer fireman, Mr. Chatman dutifully returns to school to read and instruct students.

Mr. Chatman reads to students as Mr. Smith looks on.

Retired Fennville teacher, Tom Chatman, volunteers in the Fennville High School.

Carol Huyser

"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you.." January 2006, was the time when Carol Huyser had people sing her a Happy Birthday for the 70th time in her life.

Mrs. Huyser has been a well known face in Fennville for the past

45 years. She came to Fennville in 1961, after 3 years of teaching at Allegan. We were lucky to get her as a teacher for the 5th grade in Fennville, until she retired in 1995.

Carol says, "Everyone who works in Fennville loves to work here. I've always enjoyed it and I'm ready to get up in the morning to come here". This is how it should be, and Mrs. Huyser is a true example of a loyal employee, we have been glad to have with us for many years.

Even though she has not been teaching as a classroom teacher since 1995, Mrs. Huyser now works at Fennville School as a teacher aide. She would like to work 3 more years. "Then I can say, I was in education for 50 years. These have been the best in my life".

But a lot of memories are created during all these years. One of the students that has made an indelible mark on her was Mike Cortright. "I was his first grade teacher, and then later he was my principal.".

Finally, all Mrs. Huyser can say about her educational experience is: "Each year the class you teach is always the best"

Happy Birthday and Thank you very much Mrs. Huyser!
